SELOUS GAME RESERVE.

The endless plain of wonders’ and Africa’s largest game sanctuary, covering an area of 50,000km2. The  game reserve derives its name after captain Frederic Courtesy Selous, a legendry in the 19th century , naturalist , explorer and an author whose books  about adventure in Africa were best sellers in England. Selous was born in 1851 and died in 1917, after a sniper shot from a German who killed him as he raised his binoculars to scout an enemy outpost. The game reserve was found in 1905 and declared Word Heritage Site in 1988 due to its natural diversity and today  continues to live up to its esteemed status. The game reserve has a variety habitation for wildlife including acacia, riverine forest, Miombo woodland, swamps and open grassland. Holding a large number of mammals and reptiles in Africa e.g.;   Buffaloes, Elephants,  Giraffe, Hippo and Crocodile, without forgetting predators such as Lion, Cheetahs, Leopard, Spotted hyena and more than 400 species of birds within the area. Boat and walking safari offer an exciting experience, while the northern part is reserved for photographic safari. Best time for visiting is during dry season. Captain Selous will always be remembered first & foremost as African Greatest Hunter.
