Named after mispronunciation of two words ‘’saa and ndani’’, meaning clock inside. These two words were frequently spoken by an affluent Arab business man who once lived in the village. The irritated man used to tell people who insisted on being told the time from technologically new device that the clock was inside (’’saa iko ndani.’’) , contracted and then mispronounced as’’ saa dani’’ . The park was gazzeted in 2002 when it was expanded to cover twice its former area. Today there is a wide range of grazers and primates which are seen on game drive and walks, among them are giraffe, buffalo, warthog, common waterbuck, reedbuck, hartebeest, eland, and warthog. Herds of elephant are encountered too. Boat trips on the mangrove –lined wami river come with a high chance of sighting hippos, crocodiles and riverine birds like kingfisher and flamingo, while the beach form one of the major green turtle breeding site on mainland Tanzania. Saadani national park is the only wildlife sanctuary where the bush meets the beach.
