NGORONGORO CRATER

Ngorongoro crater is one of the world truly amazing places. It is a huge caldera (collapsed volcano) that is 250km2 in size and 600 m deep and amazing over 20,000 large animals including some of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhino. Also it covers some 8300km2 and boats of the finest blend of landscape, wildlife people and archeological sites in Africa.

The natural and cultural endowment made the Ngorongoro Conservation Area a unique protected area in Africa and in 1971 and 1981 the area was accorded the status of both the heritage site and an international biosphere reserve in 1981.

Ngorongoro conservation area is a pioneering experiment in multiple land use in which pastoralist, conservation and tourism can co-exist.

The aim of the conservation area is to maintain the historic balance of people and nature in a way which has not been possible in other parts of Africa. This initiates and support s community-based projects which involve local people to harmonize relationship between wildlife conservation environment and local people. This project designed to maximize benefit to local communities without jeopardizing the natural and cultural and cultural environment.
